Bulls Stumble Despite Young's Heroics

The Bulls (19-28) have not had the best of season. They continued their downward spiral by losing 113-106 to Utah Jazz.

Here are some of the observations from the match.

Zach LaVine and Coby White returned to the starting lineup after missing one and two games, respectively. It was a surprise to see them start after question marks about their availability at the start of the day.

The Bulls started the game the better of the two teams. They came out of the blocks first half and played some rather fantastic basketball. They led the fastbreak points 10-0 as well as the turnovers 8-3. Even if their shots were not so efficient, the Bulls led at one point 43-38.

But the Jazz made a 20-4 run in the last 5 minutes of the second quarter. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell combined for some impressive three 3-pointers in those 5 minutes of total dominance. The Jazz had 7-for-17 from distance, in comparison to the Bulls' 1-for-10.

The Bulls gained a bit of momentum at the start of the third quarter. They started with a 10-2 run off the back of six quick points from Thad Young. That brought the score from 58-49 to 60-59. However, the momentum swung back in favor of the home team, as they surged to an 88-73 lead heading into the last quarter.

The Bulls had an unlikely hero, Young. He had a memorable game, scoring a season-high 25 points. Young also had 7 rebounds, taking advantage of the Jazz's lack of height in their forward play.

The Bulls reduced Jazz's lead to just six points midway through the fourth quarter. After a time-out at 5:23, the Jazz were able to get a grip on proceedings and score a valuable 3. With just three and a half minutes to play, the lead was stretched to 10, with just three and a half minutes left on the clock.

Despite a late resurgence from the Bulls, the game finished 113-106 in favor of the Jazz.

"We made lots of mistakes. We started well but tailed off. We gave up lots of runs at the end of each quarter," Zach LaVine said in his post-match interview. "You just cannot let that happen, not at this level."

LaVine played well even though this was his first game his ankle sprain in the 121-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns

"He played well. He moved really well," Donovan said when asked about LaVine. "He needed to get into his rhythm first half, but by the second half, he was playing like himself."
